Fields

There are quite a few baseball fields scattered around Tempe and Chandler. Once you get into the tournament “circuit” you get to know them pretty well, but the first few times around it can be confusing and the names don’t really give you a clue where they all are. Most of these are lighted, but a few are not. The main purpose of this page is to make it easy to find a game, scrimmage or practice if someone tosses out a name like “Arrowhead”, “Papago”, or “Victory Lane”.

West Chandler

The West Chandler Ball Fields are behind the West Chandler Aquatic Center at Kyrene just north of the 202 Freeway. These are lighted fields and a real nice facility.

I don’t know the official name or address of these fields, but people often call them the West Chandler Ball Fields. Chandler American plays most of their little leage season on these fields.

Matt Mantei Field (Mantei)

My personal favorite. This is a Diamondbacks field of dreams field. It has a batting tunnel, and the City really keeps this ball park in great shape.

Location: Clark Park, North of Broadway off McKemy. It’s between Hardy and Roosevelt North of Broadway.

Jaycee

This is a kind of funky community park. Because there is a playground just to the North East of the outfield, parents and kids run across the outfield all the time. What’s more, there’s a lot of soccer players that see the lights on and head over there and try to grab the field if you’re not paying attention. Sometimes getting them to move can be a real drag. Still, it’s a lighted ball field and has everything you need to run a night practice. The field is kind of tucked back in the southwest corner so it can be hard to see.

Location: 5th street and Hardy. Best to use parking lot off Hardy.

Luis Gonzolez (Gonzo)

Everyones favorite Diamondback. This field isn’t the most accessable for residents of South Tempe but it’s in a beautiful setting as part of Tempe Beach Park.

Location: Tempe Beach Park, off the Rio Salado Parkway.

McKemy

McKemy Junior High is sometimes used by the City of Tempe to provided lighted fields for practices. All reservations need to be made through the City and not the school.

Address: 2250 S College Ave, Tempe AZ

Location: McKemy is located south of Broadway off College Avenue.
McKemy

Palmer

Palmer is a neighborhood park next to an old Elementary School that closed and since has been converted to an extended education facility for some high school classes. There is no parking here but the field is lit. The transformer was condemned by SRP a year ago but the field was
restored this past August and is available for use again.

Palmer has lights.

Address: Carson Circle & College Ave in Tempe.

Location: Palmer is South of the 60 off S. College Ave. Take Rural North of Baseline to Carter and turn left (west). Turn right on College and you’ll be there.

Connolley

Connolly Jr High is the other middle school with lighted baseball fields that the city makes available for practices.

Address: 2002 E Concorda Dr Tempe, AZ 85282

Location: Connolly is located between Southern and Broadway East of McClintock.

Waggoner

I’m pretty sure most of the Tempe South families are familiar with CI Waggoner Elementary and the KMS baseball fields, but just to be complete, they are listed. There are no lights at these fields but they are close to home for 90% of the team so this works well.

Address: 1050 E Carver Rd, Tempe AZ

Location: Waggoner is located East of Warner, South of Elliot.

Papago

To be honest, I didn’t know these fields existed until about a week ago. There is a lighted field available at Curry and College in North Tempe. It’s really a softball field but it is available in 2 hour blocks from 6PM to 8PM and 8PM to 10PM. The pricing also appears to be reasonable given its remote location.

Address: 1300 N. College Ave, Tempe AZ

Location: At the North West Corner of Curry and College in North Tempe. It’s NORTH of the Tempe Town Lake
papago

Tempe Sports Complex (TSC)

The Home of Tempe South Little League. The 7 multi-purpose fields are turned over to football and Soccer in the fall and for a few months during the spring Tempe South Little League gets to use these fields for baseball. There are also lighted softball fields available, but the fee is pretty steep to use them.

Address: Carver and Hardy

Location: North of Warner, Wast of Kyrene.

Kiwanis

Kiwanis is super popular with softball players and they have a decent enough batting cage there. There’s a great team rate – $30 for an hour and you get a LOT of tokens. Still, because of it’s popularity some of the adult teams can be militant about getting their field time so you can’t really have practice run over.

Address: All American Way, Tempe AZ

Location: North of Guadalupe, East of Kyrene

Arrowhead

Arrowhead Park is a very popular practice field for Chandler Club Teams. The fields are lighted and the facilities are decent. The only real problem with these fields is… getting them.

Address: 1475 W Erie St, Chandler, AZ

Location: Arrowhead is located East of Dobson and North of Chandler Blvd.

Pima Park

Pima Park is located South of Ray, East of McQueen in Chandler. It is one of the few fields that can accomodate 80 and 90 feet bases on the big field.

The address is: Thatcher Blvd, Chandler AZ

Tournament Locations

There are several places around town that people play tournaments. Big League Dreams and Victory Lane are two of the most popular. There is also Rio Vista in Peoria, and Snedigar in Chandler.

Big League Dreams

This is my favorite park to play in. The funny thing about it, is that the google map shows just dirt. Actually is shows the church NEXT to BLD but not the new fields. They are awesome.

The address is: 4536 E Elliot Rd Gilbert, AZ 85234 – (480) 558-1160

Big League Dreams is near Elliot and Power Road

Victory Lane

Victory Lane for folks in the East Valley is officially in East Egypt. Man it’s a loooong drive. Not quite as magical as BLD it never the less has a better selection of food and perfectly suited to play. One warning, especially in the winter. It gets cold FAST at night. It can go from sweltering in the day to freezing in just a few hours. When you’ve got a 4:00PM game and a 7:00PM Game be prepared.

Address: 22603 N. 43rd Avenue Glendale, AZ 85310 — (623) 581-6000

Victory Lane is at 43rd Avenue and Pinnacle Peak Rd. It’s just south of Waterworld.

Snedigar

Snedigar Park is in Chandler Arizona. It’s a lot like Tempe South only most of the fields are permanent. Sometimes they have tournaments here and two years ago (2008) They held the Distict 13 baseball tournament there. Chandler National Little League plays most of their games on these fields.

The Address: 4500 S. Alma School Road Chandler, AZ 85248

Snedigar is located near Alma School and Ocotillo Rd. There are about 10 fields at Snedigar so it’s easy to get lost. When I get the field numbers I’ll add them to the graphic.

Website: There is no website.

Rio Vista (rio)

Not very often, but sometimes there is a tournament at Rio Vista Park. From my perspective this is the premier community baseball facility in Arizona. The fields have bleachers, the dugouts are all shaded, they even have bat wracks and batting helmet hangers! But perhaps most important to parents attending early morning games… there’s a Starbucks at the park. Yes that’s right. These fields are adjacent to the community center and an honest to goodness Starbucks.

The Address: W Rio Vista Blvd Peoria, AZ 85381

Rio Vista Parkway is at Thunderbird road and the 101 Freeway. Not quite as far as Victory lane but it feels like it.
