Every year parents struggle to determine which league level their child belongs in. In response to parental feedback, the league formed a competition committee to help clarify and communicated the guidelines used to place players at the appropriate level. Special thanks to Kevin Costigan the league player agent for putting together this excellent document.
Below you will find the guidelines for how players are placed.
T-BALL

3 YEAR OLDS

- Not eligible for T-Ball
- Exception – The following two conditions need to be met for participation in T-Ball:
- The player has a sibling who is 4 or 5 and playing in T-Ball
- The parent has volunteered to Manage the team

4 YEAR OLDS

- Eligible for T-Ball
- Assignment – All four year olds will be placed in T-Ball
- Not eligible for Farm
- Exception – None

5 YEAR OLDS

- Eligible for T-Ball
- Assignment – All five year olds will be placed in T-Ball
- Not eligible for Farm-National
- Exception 1 – The following two conditions need to be met for participation in Farm-National:
- The player has a sibling who is participating in Farm-National
- The parent has volunteered to Manage the team
- Exception 2 – The player is the same grade level as the 6 year olds (late birthday)
6 YEAR OLDS

- Eligible for T-Ball
- Assignment – All six year olds will be placed in T-Ball unless the parents request an assignment to the Farm-National level
- Eligible for Farm-National
- Option – A parent may request an assignment to the Farm-National level; however, it is highly recommended that the player have a year of experience at the T-Ball level prior to moving to Farm-National
- Not eligible for Farm-American
- Exception – None
FARM – NATIONAL

7 YEAR OLDS

- Eligible for Farm-National
- Assignment – All seven year olds will be placed in Farm-National
- Eligible for T-Ball
- Option – A parent may request an assignment to the T-Ball level if the player has had no prior experience or there is a safety concern
- Not eligible for Farm-American
- Exception 1 – The following two conditions need to be met for participation in Farm-American:
- The player has a sibling who is participating in Farm-American
- The parent has volunteered to Manage the team
- Exception 2 – The player is the same grade level as the 8 year olds (late birthday)
FARM – AMERICAN

8 YEAR OLDS

- Eligible for Farm-American
- Assignment – All eight year olds will be placed in Farm-American
- Eligible for Farm-National
- Option – A parent may request an assignment to the Farm-National level if the player has had no prior experience and there is a safety concern
- Eligible for Minors
- Option — Parents may request that their player participate in Minors
- The player must showcase with the 9 & 10 year olds
- Minor Managers will assess the 8 year old players’ skills and draft the players if their skills merit selection.
- Minor team rosters are limited to only one 8 year old each
- The 8 year olds are not selected for the Minors will be placed in Farm – American to develop their skills further.
- NOTE – Eight year olds are limited to 65 pitches per outing in the Minors, all other pitching rules apply
- NOTE – Parents of 8 year olds should consider the player’s reduced playing time and limited opportunities for development when requesting a move to Minors. Players are more apt to develop when they are experiencing great success and having fun with their peers, as opposed to matching skills with the nine, ten, and eleven year olds participating in Minors.
MINORS

9 YEAR OLDS

- Eligible for Minors
- Assignment – All nine year olds will showcase and be eligible for the Minor draft:
- Minor Managers will assess players’ skills and draft the highest skilled players.
- Generally, 40% – 60% of the nine year olds are drafted into the Minors. The balance of the nine year olds will be placed in Farm-American to develop their skills further.
- Eligible for Farm-American
- Option – A parent may request an assignment to the Farm-American level for any reason
- Not eligible for Farm-National
- Exception – None
- Not eligible for Majors
- Exception – None

10 YEAR OLDS

- Eligible for Minors
- Assignment – All ten year olds will showcase and be selected in the Minor draft
- Eligible for Farm-American
- Option – The following two conditions need to be met for participation in Farm-American:
- The parents request the move for safety reasons
- The Player Agent approves the move
- Eligible for Majors
- Option — Parents may request that their player participate in Majors
- The player must showcase with the 11 & 12 year olds
- Major Managers will assess the 10 year old players’ skills and draft the players if their skills merit selection.
- Major team rosters are limited to only one 10 year old each
- The 10 year olds not selected for the Majors will be placed in the Minors to develop their skills further.
- NOTE – Parents of 10 year olds should consider the player’s reduced playing time and limited opportunities for development when requesting a move to Majors.
