JUNIORS
AGE
· Players ages 13-14 play Juniors (League Age)
SKILLS AND DIVISION EMPHASIS
· Games are played against other teams from Chandler, Ahwatukee, Guadelupe and Rio Salado
· Scores are kept, and there is a 10 run rule after 3 ½ innings
· Base distances are 90 feet, the pitching distance is 60 feet, 6 inches
· Teams standings are maintained and there is an end of season playoff
HOW ARE TEAMS DETERMINED?
· Most years, the league only has one Junior team
· The League fills its Junior roster on a first-come – first serve basis
· When the first team is full, additional players are placed on a Wait List until there is an adequate number of players to field a second team
HOW MANY GAMES AND TEAMS ARE THERE?
· Juniors usually has 1-2 teams in the Spring and they play 16-18 games, plus the playoffs, against other League teams
WHEN AND WHERE ARE THE GAMES AND PRACTICES?
The coach has discretion to select the specific times, days and locations of the practices
· Games are generally ar Nazomi Park in Chandler
· Games are on various nights and times, dependent on field deliverability
· Practices are generally at the various Middle Schools or Papago Park in north Tempe
SIGNIFICANT RULES
· Nine players are in the field defensively
· Players do not sit out defensively for two consecutive innings
· Teams bat until 3 outs are recorded
· Games are completed if a team is in the lead by 10 runs after 3 ½ innings
· No new inning can start after 1 hour and 40 minutes
· Pitch count limits exist for players with specific rest time required between games
· Catchers are restricted to 4 innings if they also pitch
· Players are allowed to steal second, third and home
· There are dropped third strike rules for this division
ALL STARS
· For those players with the passion and the talent to compete at a high level (and families able to make the commitment), Tempe South selects a team of its best skilled players to participate in the District All Star Tournament.
· TSLL plays other teams from the District: Chandler, Ahwatukee, Guadelupe and Rio Salado.
· Winners of the District tournament advance to play in the State Championship.
· Winners of the State Championship advance to the Regional Championship and onto the LL World Series in Williamsport, PA
· This group of players will receive advanced baseball training and conditioning to prepare for some very advanced tournament play.
· The All Stars teams organize and compete after the completion of the Spring TSLL season. The teams practice and play games in June and early July
· There are 4 All Star teams: 8-10, 10-11, 11-12, 13-14
